December | Beauty Empties & Reviews

So just like that, the year has come to a close. I would love to be able to lay out some great narration to account for the whizzing by of time and how I made the most of it but in all honesty I have nothing to say. I feel like every time the year comes to an end we are all left shocked that it could have gone by so quickly. Feeling all at once fast and slow as it departs.

Back onto the matter at hand and I present my final collection of Empties for 2018. I am quite happy with how many products I have managed to use up this year. Mainly this is down to being consistent with my skincare routines and not opening up lots of products in the same category anymore. But it is also because I am still using up things that I have previously used partially. Going into the new year, I plan to reduce my spending on skincare products so that I can actually see some dent in my collection that should reflect how well I get through products. We shall see how it goes...

Touch In Sol Beauty Aid All In 1 Cream*
This came to me at the best time and my winter dehydrated skin is forever grateful to be graced by it and to be introduced to this excellent product. It is a silky cream that is jam packed with hydrating factors, ceramides and oils and my skin just drank it all up. I have an oily t-zone but my skin is dehydrated elsewhere and it worked perfectly for providing that protective and plumping layer of moisture without clogging up my pores. It also works beautifully with all other products be it SPF or makeup. I cannot rave about this enough and will definitely be getting another tube in the future.

Balmology Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm
I was gifted this by Binita @hiddenharmonyworld, who I'm sure those of you who read my blog will have seen me mention several times over the years. This cleansing balm is handmade here in UK in small batches and is delightful to use. It smells heavenly and melts every scrap of makeup and grime with ease and while it doesn't fully emulsify, a warm damp flannel takes it all off. And I'm left with incredibly soft, clean and nourished skin. This would make a beautiful gift for a skincare lover friend or family member or a lovely addition to your routine if you like natural handmade products.

Jinmee Hydrapuff Skincare Sheets*
I am so glad I got the chance to try these pads because they've opened my eyes up to a whole new world of beauty sheets to me - it doesn't just have to be cotton pads that come in their many forms. I use these to apply toner and I find that they feel almost like hydrogel patches because they become full saturated without breaking and tearing. They also allow the maximum amount of product to be transferred to the skin as they don't retain much of the toner, so it feels like they help reduce the amount of wasted product.

Aveeno Hand Cream
Good, basic hand cream that is perfect for using after doing the washing up or cleansing my skin. No frills but does the job.

Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist
I have become obsessed with this delightful mist to the point where I have about 6 back-ups in my current stash. I don't think that is necessary of course but its because the RRP is very high and when I spotted them on sale, I knew I would want to stock up. Onto the product and the misting action is about as fine and even and slow but wide as you could want. It almost feels like an aerosol because its so broad and even. The formula is gentle and helps to soothe and tone and hydrate all in one. It smells like what I imagine a spa to smell like - clean and fresh and invigorating. I love to use it throughout the day as a hydrating pick me up and as part of my skincare routine. What I love most is that my face never feels drenched when I use this but it is so hydrating.

La Roche Posay Serozinc
This is a classic product that I admit I didn't understand or get along with for a long while. But I have grown to rely on it for a boost of hydration without adding any extra nourishment to my skin, so especially beneficial for me in the summer. I can't say its helped me in keeping blemish-free but it is soothing and cooling.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel
One of my favourite hydrating serum formulas - it is skin plumping and doesn't leave any sticky residue on my skin. I found it worked really well with all the other products I use in my routine. I know this was only a 15ml bottle, but I did feel like I got through it really quickly. Like most other Drunk Elephant products that I like, I would only repurchase this in a gift set and on sale to get it at the best price.

Swisse Kakadu Plum Brightening Serum
Another one I was introduced to by the kindness of Binita, this creamy serum is a super gentle natural antioxidant source and sinks into the skin really quickly and leaves a slight tack on the skin but nothing gross or unbearable. I can't say I noticed anything drastic from this and I believe my skin needs a more potent Vitamin C content to help brighten and even out my skin tone but I can report I didn't see any increase in pigmentation or marks.

Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque
I really enjoyed this mask and will keep an eye out for it again in TK Maxx because it helps to make my hair so much more manageable and smooth. I leave it in my hair for about 30 mins before shampooing it out and it washes out with ease, doesn't leave any residue or heaviness and I really enjoyed it on my dry, brittle hair.

Rituals Ritual Of Sakura Celebrate Each Day Body Scrub
A beautiful scrub with a delightful scent to match. This works so well at buffing away at dry skin and rough patches while leaving a nourishing film of goodness behind on the skin.

Laura Mercier Honey Bath
Wow...did I savour this treat or did I savour this? ;) I loved every drop and its mainly down to the scent. I describe a lot of scents as 'heavenly' but if I ever was to choose only one scent where I truly mean it and anticipate exists in heaven for real, it would be this. It is deep, musky, warm, alluring and would envelope my skin in its silky intriguing notes and I loved it.

Bumble And Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer
I've used one of these minis before and really enjoyed it. It is conditioning on the hair while providing heat protection so perfect for those mornings when I wash my hair and cannot let it air dry. I'm currently using another product which is very similar but if I spot this on sale I would definitely purchase it.

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil - shade 6
I like this pencil - the soft formula, the pigmentation, the angular shape but the shade of this was too dark. I previously used shade 2 and quite liked it so I wouldn't say no to trying that again if I could get it at a more reasonable price.

Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara*
A good all rounder on my lashes. The fibres didn't hurt or irritate my eyes. I love the gorgeous packaging and if I ever get through all the mascaras I have in my stash, I would consider getting this, on sale ;)

Soap & Glory The Rushower Dry Shampoo
When I first purchased this, it was everything I wanted from a dry shampoo - smelt great and didn't leave any white powdery residue in my hair. I don't know if its because it has aged in the can or because my hair has changed on my scalp so drastically but it just left all the chalkiness so much so that I had to wash my hair just to get it out. Totally uncool for a dry shampoo to force you to wash your hair. Thankfully I have just discovered IGK and its everything I want from a dry shampoo ;)

The Body Shop Honey & Oat 3-in-1 Moisturising Scrub Mask
I can't even remember when I bought this but its been a long time. It smells edible but I just didn't like this on my face. It is so messy as it is completely made up of physical bits and pieces. The oats I believe. I ended up using it up on my body and hands just so it wouldn't go to waste.

The Body Shop Mint Mattifying Face Mist
Such a disappointing product. It is neither mattifying or pleasant to use. Waste of money.

The Body Shop Mandarin Energising Face Mist
This one had a bit more potential as it was mildly hydrating but it stings my eyes so badly. I couldn't use it up. No!

Origins Plantscription
I don't hate this product - it is hydrating and works well with other products and my skin but I have a full size and I just don't love it enough to think I would want to repurchase it.

Sister & Co Coconut Oil
A lovely coconut oil - no beady bits. But its just not something I would use and ended up using it on my girls bodies after bath time during the winter just to give them a serious boost of nourishment but they didn't enjoy the greasiness at all.

Mahogany Naturals Manuka Mud Mask
This mask is super decadent, exfoliating and clarifying but the price point just isn't appealing to me. I managed to buy this at 50% off but I don't know if I loved it enough as it took me a long while to use it up.

Grounded Floral Facial Toner*
I was so excited to be contacted by this brand because I had actually watched them on Dragon's Den ;) and I still have their famous coffee scrub in my body routine. But this mist - I just can't. I haven't been able to use it up all these days and I know I never will. Every time I have tried it, over products, or even randomly during the day and it has made my skin burn. Not a good sensation at all.

Antipodes Jubilation Hand & Body Cream*
From a brand I love, this product left me underwhelmed. I didn't find this formula hydrating enough as a body cream nor as a hand cream for me. Also, my girls hated the scent - it is super earthy and verges on wet moss, and they despised it any time I used it around them.

Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water*
I don't use micellar waters on my face and only use them to remove eye makeup so the whole charcoal skin mattifying aspect is irrelevant to me. I can't even remember how I used this up - most likely I used it to soak my beauty blenders and under eye sponges.

Champney's Heavenly Days Warming Scrub
I loved the scent of this but I didn't get this product at all. It is an exfoliating gel that you use on dry skin but on dry skin it doesn't move about easily so couldn't really work it around my skin. Using it wet makes it completely dissolve. So it did nothing for me either way really. Nice scent though so I might check out the body lotion or wash from this scent range.

Glamglow YouthMud
I really hate this mask. I'd actually tried a deluxe sample of this years ago and hated it then. I think I hate it even more now. It does cleanse and exfoliate my skin but that level of irritation, pain and tingling isn't worth it. It is also laden with gross dry leafy bits that just frustrate me. I hate it, I hate it so much.

Hylamide Pore Flush
I liked the minty salad scent. That's about it. It isn't hydrating or mattifying. It drenches my face completely. Just not good.

Crabtree & Evelyn Overnight Hand Therapy
I want an overnight hand mask/treatment that is thick and nourishing and that truly moisturises my hands and helps them stay that way more effectively. This is not the one. It was perfectly pleasant but didn't have the oomph that I was hoping for.

The Hero Project Glow Drops With Vitamin C
I didn't hate this product, it just didn't fit into my skincare routine at either end of the day. I liked the pump and the scent but ended up covering my legs in the stuff.

Pixi Rose Flash Balm*
I've had a strange relationship with this product because I started off loving it as a hydrating primer. It was a great one to keep my makeup fresh while nourishing my skin. But when I decided to use this as a moisturiser, it pilled up like crazy and ruined all my skincare layerings. I ended up using it up as a mask which was an insignificant experience.

SNP Animal Panda Warming Eye Mask
I liked this but didn't love it. It didn't cushion my eye area as cush-ily as I would've liked. It was nice but not one I would care not to use again.

Would you want to see empties posts with reviews like this again throughout 2019? Or is there a different format you would advise me to try? I'd love to know...
