October | Beauty Empties & Mini Reviews

Sunday, November 04, 2018

This may sound weird but I am actually shocked by how many products I finished using this past month. I guess I should explain that I store my Empties in a cardboard box on the top shelf of my wardrobe so it really is at the point of taking the pictures for this blog post that I usually get to see exactly how much I have accumulated - and you know, out of sight, out of mind. I will finish something, chuck it in the box and completely forget all about it until I am reunited with its outer shell for just such a purpose. Basically if I had to guess, I'd have said I only used up a handful of things this October. Anyway, as always, I will be giving a mini review of each product based upon my entire experience of the product and state whether or not I think I would happily repurchase it.

SKINCARE

Yes, would definitely repurchase:

Simple Micellar Water
I use this every single day that I wear makeup to remove the bulk of my eye makeup. You've seen it here before. You know I love it. It does the job gently, no irritation and I buy them for around the price of a Tesco Meal Deal when they're on offer.

Antipodes Hosanna H2O Intensive Skin Plumping Serum*
This earthy scented, earth coloured, runny serum makes for an excellent hydration booster for those with oily/combo skin because it is so lightweight and not greasy at all. I will be pushing this to the top of my list for next summer.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme
I've been through a few of these tubs now and I probably still will yet. These saturated pads are potent enough to be effective, gentle enough to not cause any irritation and always go on sale for about 1/2 price.

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base
This was a product I started using almost 10 years ago now and probably is one of the longest running skincare products in my life that I have constantly repurchased. This serves as a nourishing moisturiser and a makeup primer and I just love how healthy and plump my skin looks and feels when I apply this. The scent is forever associated with my younger, carefree days when I literally could apply this, some blusher, mascara and still look fabulous and flawless and not like I crawled out of bed after crying myself to sleep every single night.

Might repurchase it, if it goes on sale:

Omorovicza Moor Cream Cleanser
Okay so it would have to be a crazy massive sale with a hefty discount on this or some kind of value set because I love this cleanser so much more than I like to admit because it is so damn expensive. It reminds me of Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser in that it helps strips my skin of any dirt or grime without stripping my skin and doubles as a mini face mask, but this is somehow really soothing at the same time. I just love it and I hate that I love it because now I am without it and I can't bring myself to spend more than £50 for the full size even though I would absolutely love it! Argh!

Heimish All Clean Balm
This is a brilliantly effective cleansing balm, no-frills if you will - just does the job and does it really well. Its not super exciting bar the rose gold trim on the packaging, and the fact that it melts and removes makeup like a dream. It doesn't have a scent, or at least not one that I can discern. It is worthy to note that they did reformulate this so the newer version no longer contains donkey milk if I am correct.

Bravura Lactic Acid 10% Peel
If you're looking for a good, gentle exfoliating serum that will work effectively but relatively gently, you may enjoy this one. Being Lactic Acid, it hydrates the skin while working to exfoliate the skin's surface. I would use this on night's when my skin was looking dull and wake up to fresher, brighter looking skin. I will probably get this again as it is so dependable and affordable but currently I just enjoy more combination acid serums.

Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Oil Free Oxygenating Gel Cream
I didn't expect much from this but I was pleasantly surprised at how silky smooth and sophisticated this formula is. It is targeted at oilier skin types and it delivers hydration without greasiness perfectly. It works so well with other products and I could apply way too much and never look shiny or feel my face was overwhelmed with the amount or heaviness of the moisturiser.

Dr. Roebuck's Boost & Tighten Serum
This serum was such a good skin maintenance product as it contains a little amount of retinol paired with very hydrating ingredients so what you are left with is a lovely smooth skin surface that looks and feels well nourished. I believe they have repackaged their entire line but I think I still have another one of these in the stash to work through for now.

Gatineau Perfection Ultime Eye Serum*
This eye serum worked so well for me throughout the summer months as it is very lightweight but delivers in hydration. It doesn't feel or look greasy so once you pat it in it helps the area feel and look plump without being too much. I really enjoyed this one and hooray for the pump!

Nope, won't be repurchasing.

Elizavecca Milky Piggy Hell-Pore Clean-Up Mask
There was a time I thought this mask was one of the best and that everyone should try it. I no longer think that. Unless of course you are only going to use this on your t-zone and you are prone to congestion. Otherwise this is a near-facial waxing in a tube. It hurts. Its probably not safe. Don't get this on your brows or hair line or you will be sorry.

Mahogany Naturals Hydrating Repair Oil*
Lovely on my skin, far too expensive to purchase. I have been dabbling in blending oils these past few months, and while I don't think I could create exactly this, I may try to create something very similar.

Dr. Roebuck's Bondi Hydrating Mist*
The mist is fine, the packaging is bulky but glass and the spritz action is a good one but I just didn't like the scent too much. It's like their hand cream scent which I wasn't a fan of.

Omorovicza Rejuvenating Night Cream
I LOVE THIS but its just not in my budget. That's all. It is a lush lush formula, sinks in but leaves just the right amount of residue that your skin feels enveloped in something special. Skin is plump and healthy looking the next morning. But the price tag is a big ouch!

BODY & HAIR

Yes, would definitely repurchase:

Soap & Glory Heel Genius
I say definitely will repurchase but actually this is more likely a maybe because for the first or second time in the last decade, I bought a different foot cream and I'm kind of liking it more. Will update soon...

Bloom & Blossom Wispy Misty Bubble Bath*
Beautifully scented, non-stripping and creates some very impressive bubble works. We took this away with us and the girls had such a blast with this each night, and it was the perfect product to help wind them down easily despite being super excited.

Caudalie Hand & Nail Cream
Another frequent fave - this is my favourite hand cream of all. It smells divine, absorbs without leaving a greasy residue and is just a perfect formulation.

Might repurchase it, if it goes on sale:

Maui Moisture Revive & Hydrate Shea Butter Shampoo & Conditioner*
Gorgeous scent, simple hair cleanser and conditioner, not as hydrating on my hair where it has been bleached and colour treated.

Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Milk
A nice delicious scented body lotion. Doesn't keep my skin hydrated for a huge length of time but fine for applying just after a shower to stop my skin from drying out completely.

Papaya Gold Paw Paw Moisture Balm
I got this just to keep in my handbag and use on myself or my girls when we get dry lips and what not when we're out and about. Does the job of sealing any moisture in without being very nourishing itself.

Caudalie Hand & Nail Cream Scented

Nope, won't be repurchasing.

Maui Moisture Shea Butter Hair Mask*
This also smells really good like the shampoo and conditioner but sadly did nothing for my hair except weigh it down and make it greasy. Not for me.

Soap & Glory Hand Food
I think after using this since my uni days, I have finally gotten bored of it even though its such a good basic hand cream. Also this particular tube went off I think so that's left a bitter taste in my mouth with this one.

Burt's Bees Men's Body Wash
I bought this for my husband. He probably used it a couple of times and then it just sat there. So I decided to just use it up myself. It is a lovely body wash, smells of a very strong honey but I would just get myself the regular/women's(?) version next time.

System Hair Oil
I only had one pump of this left a couple of weeks ago so I must've used this up mostly last year so I don't really remember much about it I'm afraid. It has a lovely scent.

Cowshed Grumpy Cow Bath & Body Oil
Again, as I am now making my own body oils, I just don't see the need for me to purchase this again myself. I am not against receiving them as gifts and this one (the set of 3) would make a lovely gift for anyone, but not one I would go out to buy anymore.

MAKEUP

Might repurchase it, if it goes on sale:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Pressed Powder - 02
This is my favourite high street/drugstore powder in its horrible new packaging. I still don't get it that they would change from the compact sleek packaging they had before. Anyway, I still have loads of those left in back up thankfully but I wanted to use this one to see how they compare and I believe they are still the same from how this wore. I just wish they hadn't re-packaged it as I fear I might not go back to this once my older packaging compacts come to an end.

OTHER

Might repurchase it, if it goes on sale:

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
Smells lovely. I can't comment that it makes me fall asleep any faster or gives me a better night's rest but I do like spritzing before bed as I've associated the scent with sleep now.

Nope, won't be repurchasing.

Kat Von D Saint Perfume
I think got this little travel/deluxe size in a beauty box but I may be wrong as I have forgotten. I liked the scent - very sweet and delicate and not too far different from what I usually steer towards but I just don't see why I would splash out on a perfume from a brand like this. I do however appreciate this packaging which you can unscrew so I can refill it with something else and pop it in my handbag :)
