Autumn or not, there’s something about burnt orange tones that warms my heart. I suppose that is the very nature of the shade, vibrant in its warmth and fiery and exciting. More and more I find myself reaching for these kinds of tones to use in my makeup where once upon a time I would’ve shuddered at the though of anything orangey on my face. Here are some of the products I reach for when I want to do a burnt orange makeup look, which happens to be perfect all year round, and especially adored come this time of year.

The easiest way to create a burnt orange look is by way of the eyes. A warm brown smokey eye will forever be beautiful and alluring with a hint of orange peeking through from the contours of the eyes. For this look my Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Quad is absolutely perfect, helped of course by the fact that my transition shade is called Burnt Orange. These shadows blend so easily and I can create flawless eye looks within seconds with these shadows. Blank Canvas Cosmetics Master Series Palette One* is a gorgeous palette that offers a little more variety with a range of warm brown, red and orange tones. I’ve been enjoying trying out different burnt orange looks of different intensities with this palette. There are four shades in particular that I find myself reaching for a lot - Carmin, Cocoa, Forza & Strut. And of course ColourPop in their vast array have quite a few options. In my collection I have ColourPop Super Shock - Elixir & Game Face which pair beautifully together for a bright coppery orange look.

Lips are another easy option to go bright or vibrant and my burnt orange lip options are actually really wearable, almost deep nude shades that would work with any skin tone I feel. MAC Matte Lipstick - Taupe is one of my staple lipsticks that I reach for a lot as it works with so many different looks. It never looks over the top and is highly pigmented, long-lasting and looks absolutely stunning on the lips. To me this is the perfect brown nude shade for my skin tone even though it has that hint of peachy to it. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Speed Dial is a rich peach shade that dries down a little darker for that burnt orange vibe. This formula gives that true matte powdery finish to the lips, is quite long lasting but can be quite drying so a balm layered underneath is essential.

For this kind of look a bronzed complexion works wonderfully. Golden and bronze toned highlighters also complement the overall look. I haven’t mentioned any here because I have any number that would work. What I do have though is a striking blusher that isn’t to be underestimated at all. Nars Blush - Taj Mahal is described as a burnished orange with golden shimmer and that’s exactly what it is. The golden shimmer isn’t all that obvious when I wear the blusher but works wonderfully to reflect some of the light off that vibrant deep orange. The vibrant tangerine shade looks far scarier in the pan but is actually a very wearable shade, that would look amazing on really deep skin tones. It is so pigmented that you really have to use a light hand - I very literally can only dab my brush onto the pan once and it’s enough for me to achieve a warm peachy orange glow.

Do you prefer burnt orange eye looks or lips, or even complexion colour? What products do you have that would work in this edit? I'd love to know...
