AKA, All About That Day I Was A Wedding Guest...Twice!

best makeup for asian skin wedding guest

The weekend before last I had the honour of attending two lovely wedding ceremonies. They were both on the same day, and I had a bridal shower to attend the following day, so it was the longest weekend of my life! Despite it being exhausting, I really enjoyed preparing my skin for the big day, loved the makeup I did and will definitely be following most of these steps again for my brother's wedding this weekend! (No rest for the wicked eh!)

I thought I'd put a post together detailing my skin prep and makeup menu for That Day I Was A Wedding Guest...Twice!

best skincare to prepare your skin for big event

I started the night before to make sure that my skin was ready for the long day ahead. There were dry flaky patches to deal with, pores to clear out and a general healthy radiance to achieve. I opted for a triple masking session and used three Peter Thomas Roth Masks. Firstly the Pumpkin Enzyme Mask to exfoliate my skin thoroughly, followed by the Irish Moor Mud Mask to draw out impurities and finally Marine Algae Hydrating Mask to soothe and hydrate my skin. I went to bed with clear, bright and smooth skin. To soothe and protect my skin overnight I patted on my favourite face balm Mahogany Naturals The Blue Lover.

The next morning I started my skin care early and while I got the girls dressed I applied the Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask all over my face and Petitfee Black Pearl & Gold Hydrogel Eye Patches. After 20-30 minutes I removed the patches and washed off the mask and my skin was perfectly plumped up and prepped for makeup application. I decided to do a high sleek bun so while I did my hair I used SooAee Donkey Milk Brightening Skin Gel Mask to seal in all the hydrating goodness and add an extra dose of brightness to my complexion. I also applied the Merumaya Lip Line Restoration Treatment* to make the lines on my upper lip less pronounced especially because I planned to use liquid lipsticks for the following 10 hours or so. Just before I began makeup application I took it off and applied Rodial Glam Balm Lip which is a great lip plumping balm that is great under liquid lipsticks. To moisturise my skin I opted to slather on This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up which is super hydrating without being greasy or slippery at all.

Now onto the makeup which I started to apply at 11am. Usually I do my base makeup first but if life has taught me anything, on important days you need to do your eye makeup first to avoid messing up an entire face of makeup. So I spritzed Primark Primer Water all over my face while I worked on my brows and eyes just because its so refreshing and would keep my skin hydrated.

I started by filling in my brows with Too Faced Natural Matte Palette - Sexpresso which is dark enough to fill them and define them and then I set them in place with Benefit Gimme Brow.

Next up I used Urban Decay Primer Potion which I only use if I'm not using any cream shadows as a base. And for this look I opted to use only My Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Quad because a warm brown smokey eye look will forever be in fashion and I knew it would work perfectly with my peach dress. I applied Bengal all over the lid, Burnt Orange in the socket and crease as my blending/transition shade. And then slowly added a touch of Morocco in the crease, finishing off with Fudge in the outer corner for some smokey depth. I came back to my eye makeup after doing my base makeup where I added a touch of Morocco & Fudge along the lower lash line because I wasn't planning on wearing any kohl for this look. To tightline I used Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon to make my upper lashes look even fuller as this look was very top heavy. I then used my beloved Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen to do a thick cat eye winged liner look and then finally applied Maybelline Lash Sensational to both top and bottom lashes.

For my base makeup I started off with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer which is great at keeping my makeup looking fresh all day. Of course I opted for the ever so reliable Esteé Lauder Double Wear - 3W2 Cashew which is a perfect shade match, lasts ALL DAY and is one of the best as keeping my oily skin tamed. I then decided to do something I never really do and that is to layer my concealers first with Mac Pro Longwear Concealer - NW25 which has a pink undertone to correct the darkness under my eyes, followed by NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer - Ginger over top as it is a soft finish full coverage concealer that matches my skin perfectly. To set this all in place I used NYX HD Finishing Powder - Banana which adds a flattering brightness to my under-eye area while ensuring my concealer stays put without creasing. To set my face makeup I used Charlotte Tilbury AirBrush Flawless Finish Powder - Medium which is a beautiful powder that mattifies the skin without making it look flat and gives a blurred airbrush finish to the skin and makeup.

For complexion colour I bought out my two precious face palettes that I tend to reserve for special occasions. Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow - Light To Medium doesn't have the darkest bronzer but personally I love that its quite light because I can never get it looking hideously wrong with this. I applies a fair amount along the hollows of cheeks, around the edges of my head, under my jaw and lightly on the sides of my nose to achieve the most discreet contouring effect. I used the highlighter shade from this palette on my brow bone and inner corner. I then used my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit - I applied Luminous Bronze Light to deepen the contouring a little and add a little radiance to it all, followed by Iridescent Light as my cheek highlighter and along the bridge of my nose and a touch of Luminous Flush to the apples of my cheeks.

Finally onto my lips. I knew I'd be coming back to change my makeup a little for the 2nd wedding so I went for pinky in the daytime. theBalm Meet Matte Hughes - Charming is that perfect rosy mauve shade that works with any number of looks. Its a long-lasting formula that is comfortable, non-drying and I knew I could rely on to stay put without crumbling or settling into lines.

I don't actually know if it does actually help set makeup into place but I have become a little addicted to using Primark Primer Water after completing my makeup too in the hopes that it keeps it looking fresh so I did that. And that was it. Done!

Look No.2

We came home for about 20 minutes in between to refresh (ermmm...just in case the girls had made complete messes of their dresses - which thankfully they didn't) and I changed into a slightly shimmery pale gold dress. My makeup thankfully was looking as amazing as it did hours before, except for needing a touch of Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder at 4pm on my t-zone and a top-up of lipstick after lunch. So I didn't need to do anything too drastic to my makeup and I just wanted to just add a few bits to suit an evening event.

I applied a healthy dose of ColourPop Super Shock Shadow - Thirsty Girl over the centre of my eye lid because if you're not going to wear some glitter and sparkle to an evening wedding, then really when will you?!? I took a little bit more of Fudge from my ABH Quad to deepen my outer V and lower lash line.

For my face I used a touch of Diffused Light on the tops of my cheek bones and Mood Exposure to the apples of my cheeks from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette.

And the last thing I switched up completely was my lipstick. I chose theBalm Meet Matte Hughes - Trustworthy which has been one of my favourite liquid lipstick shades since I bought it. It is a lovely rusty brown nude shade that flatters me beautifully. Its deep without being dark and looks fabulous with a brown smokey eye.

And that, my friends, was the end of that. I was sensible and made sure to cleanse my face even though we didn't get home till midnight. I was super happy with how well the makeup wore throughout the day. 12 hours later I was shiny, my concealer had started to crease and my lips were craving some lip balm but I can't complain. We travelled 20 miles and back that day, ate two full Asian wedding meals and lived to tell the tale. The next morning I slapped on another sheet mask because I had a bridal party to attend that evening, but I kept that makeup look simple because I was literally a zombie the next day! But that's another story for another time.

I hope you enjoyed reading my long and extended UmmBaby Makeup Menu post. Let me know if you did...

Do you spot any favourites? What skin preps do you do before a big event? What's your most reliable foundation? Have you ever attended more than one wedding/party in one day? I'd love to know...
