high end makeup haul, best new makeup, new nars concealer review, new laura mercier powder review

I obviously don't have to state this but I will just for the sake of it anyway: The spending ban isn't going so well.

In all fairness I was doing great until Space NK sent over a promotional email, oh and then I noticed how I only had a handful of foundations left and freaked out. Long story short, I ended up adding a few new bits of makeup to my collection. And they just so happen to be all brand new base products.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light - 3.5 | £31

If you read my recent post: Makeup Collection Series - Foundations you will have seen that this was on my wish list. I love Double Wear so much and I have only heard great things about this light version that I knew I had to try it for myself. I've been looking for a base product that offers a matte finish and decent longevity without looking too full-on.

The packaging states: 15 hour wear. Light as air. Lightweight, comfortable makeup stays vibrant and fresh, no matter how active your day becomes. Resists smudging and won't "melt" off through heat and humidity. Controls excess oil. Won't clog pores. Sheer-to-medium coverage. Natural finish...

I have high hopes for this and really hope this ticks all the boxes for me.

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer - Ginger | £23

I'm not the biggest fan of NARS' Radiant Creamy Concealer which featured in my Top 10 Surprisingly Disappointing Products post because I just found it to be too drying on my under-eye area and didn't offer me enough coverage. So yes, it was shocking to see me rushing to purchase this new concealer which is actually marketed as a mattifying product and is a pot concealer which I never get along with.

But something about it called to me. The promise of a full coverage matte concealer that would blend and blur and cover completely all the while looking natural? Count me in!

And so far, so good. I've tried this both under my eyes and to spot conceal and I much prefer it for my under eye area. It is actually quite creamy and pigmented but doesn't look cakey or heavy or unnatural (in the way the Anastasia Beverley Hills one does). Ironically I find this more creamy and less drying than the Radiant Creamy for some strange reason...and I'm so glad!!! It feels weightless on the skin and though I get my usual creasing, its nothing too dramatic or unflattering. Personally I am not a fan of it being in a pot but in terms of performance, I am impressed so far.

I also liked the fact that the shades seem to run the same across from the other concealer too giving me the confidence to order my shade online. I went for the same shade and while they're not completely identical, they are pretty similar.

Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder - Shade 3 | £32

Because I have oily-combination skin, I use powders a lot. I prefer pressed powders because they are less messy and I have tried my fair share of mattifying powders over the years. But recently I have been seeking out makeup to help me achieve a glowing base while controlling my excessively oily t-zone. That is precisely why this powder caught my attention.

It claims to give the skin a soft-focus and luminous finish and I can tell you it does just that. It has a subtle glow that helps reflect light and blur imperfections. The sheer colour in the powder really helps to brighten and blur the skin in the most flattering way. And most importantly, it sets my makeup wonderfully and allows my complexion to look radiant and glowing in a way that I usually can't enjoy with blotting, mattifying powders.

It doesn't look cakey on the skin and can be used really lightly all over for a really diffused luminosity. You can also use this as a highlighter by packing it on the high points of the cheeks. I perhaps could have gotten this in the shade lighter but thankfully the colour is so slight that this melts right into my skin without depositing much colour at all.

To me this is a slightly cheaper version of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders and available in more skin-like shades. They both have that super subtle glow that isn't bourne out of any discernable shimmer. So this one is great if you're looking for an alternative or you struggle to choose which shade to get from the Hourglass line.

Have you tried any of these? Will you be purchasing the new NARS Concealer or are you too much of a Radiant Creamy enthusiast? Have you bought any new base products recently? I'd love to know...
