Brand Focus | Game Changing Skincare From Merumaya

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

I'm a huge fan of cleansing balms and one that had been on my wish list for many years was the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm. Last year the team were kind enough to send me samples of their cult cleaner. Long story short, it was love at first cleanse ;) and I didn't hesitate to buy a full size as soon as I could.

I've since tried a few more products from their line-up and can quite confidently say Merumaya has bought some game changers into my skincare cabinet. There are some gems here that I can see myself using for a very, very long time to come.

merumaya skincare review, british skincare brand, cult cleanser, best cleansing balm

Maleka, the founder of Merumaya, focuses on bringing to the market skincare that at first appears simple but in reality is hardworking, effective and beneficial in the long-run and not just for the fleeting moment that you apply it. The brand is based on 5 core pillars which each product is created to fulfill:

  • Prevent & Perfect
  • Performance
  • Pleasure
  • Practicality
  • Personal
In my experience, I can say that this comes across in each product, which are not only great at doing their intended jobs but offer far more overall too - from the packaging choices, the sensory experience and affordable prices, to the effectiveness, skin results and the confidence I now feel with the condition of my skin.

Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm | £16.50

Kicking things off with their most iconic product, this cleaning balm ticks a lot of boxes in my ideal cleansing balm criteria list. Packaged in a convenient tube the consistency is more gel-like than your traditional solid oil cleansing balms. It smells amazing - which I later found out after trying more of their products is the signature Merumaya scent - sweet, delicate and luxurious without making the products irritating or too pungent to use.

It contains omega rich echium oil which helps to soothe and plump the skin and sweet almond oil which helps to nourish the skin and leave it feeling soft. It melts wonderfully upon contact with the heat of skin and breaks down any makeup and build-up on the surface of the skin quickly and effectively. Once you're done massaging the product all over, you can then either use a warm flannel to wipe it all off or you can add water to emulsify it and further cleanse your face before washing/wiping off. I love both methods depending on my mood and both ways make the product feel as luxurious and effective as the other.

This doesn't leave a weird film of product on the face and also doesn't strip the face of any moisture either. Thankfully this doesn't irritate my eye area but I make sure to use a miceller water to remove heavy eye makeup beforehand to avoid getting that greasy film in my eyes. My skin is left feeling soft and silky smooth after use. I would recommend this product for all skin types and if you're looking for that makeup cleanser that does the job well and feels like a skin treat at the same time, then this is the one you're looking for.

merumaya melting cleansing balm review, best toner for uneven skintone review, merumaya treatment toner review

Merumaya Treatment Toner | £15.50

I won't hesitate to state that this is one of the best skincare products I have ever tried!

This hybrid solution hydrates and softens the skin while helping to rejuvenate the complexion. It helps the skin to retain moisture and prepares the surface for subsequent products to perform more effectively. It also has antioxidant and protective qualities making this a unique and effective product I can't seem to live without.

This toner contains hyaluronic acid which we all know is great for hydration and helps the skin look plumper. There is also a complex of brown and micro algae along with other essential amino acids and minerals that really help to keep the skin's moisture levels up during the day and lend in softening the skin. The skin activated vitamin c is what really raises the game for this toner by helping to brighten the skin and with continued use, I've noticed my skin even out in tone and texture.

If you are struggling to retain moisture in your skin or failing to get rid of dark spots or you have patches of dryness that don't seem to go away, then I believe you will truly value having this product in your life. It smells as great as the rest of the products, comes in a bottle with a click-lid so no messy unscrewing & dropping the lid on the bathroom floor and is reasonably priced.

I use this mostly as a morning toner because it instantly plumps my skin up and helps keep dryness at bay. I use this by pouring a few drops onto a cotton pad and sweeping all over the face and neck. I've also tried patting this into my skin as an additional layer of hydration and even though the texture is very watery, it works and my skin really appreciates the extra effort. I already have my back-up bottle of this waiting to go as I've used 2/3 of my current bottle and I know my skin can't afford to be without this anymore.

merumaya retinol resurfacing treatment review, anti ageing skincare, best retinol cream

Merumaya Retinol Resurfacing Treatment* | £33.50 (RELEASED FRIDAY!)

This is the newest treatment from Merumaya that's making a difference to my skin in a way I never thought was possible by something applied topically. This ultra gentle formula focuses on delivering the results of a retinol product without the irritation that is normally associated with them.

Using a stabilised version of retinol, Retinyl Palmitate, it helps to refine the skin's texture by peeling away top layers of skin, boosting cell turnover and helping to smooth out the appearance of fine lines. It also contains hyaluronic acid which provides hydration and helps the skin retain the moisture more effectively. The formula is also composed of skin soothing and repairing ingredients that really help to make this an ultra gentle but effective formula so you can get the results of a retinol treatment without the peeling, dryness or inflammation.

I use this in the evenings after serum and before moisturiser, although the formula is moisturing enough that you could skip this if you wished. I find it to be extremely gentle on the skin and aside from a barely noticeable tingle the first time I applied it and a tight/dry feeling the next morning, I can't say there is anything negative about this formula. It is a perfect blend of actives with moisturising agents so it doesn't clog my pores and truly helps to balance my skin.

After using this every night for a whole week, I noticed a huge difference in the overall appearance of my skin and not once did my skin feel irritated. My skin looked brighter, more healthier and had developed a glow and even members of my family began to comment on how fresh and luminous my face looked. My skin was smoother to the touch and the little bumps that I had on my forehead had finally gone. I can't praise this concoction enough for refining my complexion and all the while feeling like nothing more than a light textured moisturiser. My makeup even applies more smoothly and flawlessly now that this is part of my regular skincare regimen.

I really like the packaging because I know all the fabulous ingredients are protected from exposure to light and air, though I am concerned about how I will know when I'm nearing the end. I'm now using this every other night, sometimes even with another gentle retinoid, and I'm really enjoying the noticeble results. If you are beginning to see the signs of ageing, or if you have skin texture issues or if uneven skintone is a concern for you, then I highly recommend you getting your hands on some of this.

Merumaya Youth Preservation Moisturiser SPF 15 | £31.50

I haven't actually used this yet as I've been using a deluxe sample of the SPF 20 version and I'm really enjoying it and when I saw this was on sale I ordered it. This moisturiser sounds very simple and as though it doesn't do much - it is in fact broadly beneficial.

This contains hyaluronic acid which we know is our skin's best friend for adding moisture and keeping up the levels of hydration throughout the day. It plumps the skin as it hydrates too helping the appearance of fine lines and sallowness. The sun protection, while not enough for longer periods of sun exposure, provides UVA/UVB protection and helps to protect the skin from premature signs of ageing and the darkening of scars. This is a silky smooth formula that penetrates quickly into the skin, moisturises but feels weightless making it ideal to wear alone or under makeup.

For me, I intend to use this as a daily moisturiser for those days when I have no plans to go out. But because I keep my curtains open during the day, I am still exposed to sunlight in short intervals and I want something that doesn't feel too heavy to help protect my skin.

If you are looking for a good moisturiser with SPF that doesn't feel sticky or tacky and doesn't have that white cast about it, then I recommend you look at this or better yet, the SPF 20 version.

I've got a few little samples, which I received as part of a gift with purchase from one of my orders, to try of some of their other popular products and I have every confidence that they will be amazing too. Overall, Merumaya has slowly started to take over my skincare cabinet but not with any gimmicks or fancy branding but rather with the delivery of effective skincare, that's a pleasure to use and benefits my skin in more ways than one. I look forward to good skin health this year thanks to this British brand :)

Have you tried anything from Merumaya? Is their iconic cleansing gel on your wish list? Does the sound of the Retinol Resurfacing Treatment tickle your skin? Let me know...
