best brow products for sparse, dark, eyebrows with no shape

It's been a long time since my Top 3 Brow Gels post and an eyebrow product update was more than necessary as I've discovered so many gems recently. Again I reiterate, I'm not into painted on brows or anything too bold or dramatic. I have sparse brows with no real definition and I rely on makeup to create the illusion of naturally fuller brows and a flattering shape.

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll probably know by now that my favourite brow product, that I was using almost daily, is the Natural Collection Eyeshadow - Crushed Walnut, which I spoke about in this post in more detail. So when I was contacted about the launch of three new products I was super excited to see how I'd get along with their designated brow products. In brief, I'm super impressed not only with the quality of these highly affordable products but also the shades they have selected for the line.

My favourite of the three is the Natural Collection Brow Kit* | £1.99 which features a wax and a powder all neatly presented in a cute little compact with a tiny spoolie and mini double-ended angled brow brush. I'm not used to using brow pomades (except for Soap & Glory Archery Brow Putty) and I'm always afraid they'll be too bold so it's been a refreshing experience for me using this. The wax is creamy and isn't too pigmented making it perfect for creating the shape and shadow of brows without looking overdone or menacing. It dries and sets but doesn't make my brows hard or crispy meaning I can still move my brows or touch them and they feel normal. Although this kit only comes in one shade, it works perfectly on my brows being neither too cool nor too warm and I can imagine it being great on different skin tones and brows, except maybe those that have very light coloured brows. The powder is also very similar in colour to my beloved Crushed Walnut making it perfect for filling in the gaps or for using alone.

I'm also really impressed with the Natural Collection Brow Pencil* | £1.99 which reminds me a lot of Soap & Glory Archery Pencil - Hot Chocolate, another favourite of mine. The pencil isn't overly pigmented which gives me great control and is that perfect brow pencil texture, not too hard that it hurts to press on the skin and not too soft that it's just glides right through drawing on the whole brow. It comes in two shades and each pencil has its own brow spoolie on the end. I like using the darker shade - Dark Brown - to define and fill my brows (it's almost identical to Hot Chocolate) and the lighter shade - Medium Brown - at the beginning of my brows where I naturally have very few hairs just to subtly create the illusion of fullness. These are great pencils and perform so well for the price. A huge thumbs up from me!

The third installment in this line up is Natural Collection Brow Gel* | £1.99 that comes in two shades - Medium Brown, which is identical to the pencil version and Dark Brown which is significantly darker than the pencil. They are both highly pigmented and the liquid formula glides through the brows and the skin behind the brows creating really full and bold brows. This is great for sparse brows and for gaps but I find the large bristles too difficult to control and so I end up making a mess with colour all over the place. Thankfully the gel takes a minute to dry so there is time to brush through and remove excess product and distribute it through the brows properly. But overall, I find myself frightened of the brush and therefore avoiding reaching for these. Overall, Natural Collection have done a great job of bringing to the market some highly affordable and amazing brow products that I can see myself purchasing in the future.

If you are looking for a brow gel at a similar price point that has a smaller brush, then I recommend checking out Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara | £2.50 which is said to contain fibres which fuse to existing brow hairs adding some colour and definiton. I like using this when I don't have much time as it is quick to use and build up the colour and I find the product stays in place all day. This is great for those with great brows who need a little help filling in some gaps. I don't think it does a great job of making my eyebrows appear fuller but it is great for a little perk up.

A brand more well known for their interest in brows is Benefit Cosmetics and thanks to another round of magazine freebies, which the brand specialise in, I've finally had the chance to try their classic brow gel and one of their new pencils. Although I've got a lighter shade, I really love the formula of Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil | £18.50 which is an angled, pointed hard pencil that softens when it comes in contact with skin and draws on hairs for a very natural look. Although I'm not a fan of the price of the full size of this, it's something I would definitely want to pick up in a slightly darker shade. Benefit Gimme Brow | £18.50 has always been on top of eyebrow gel lists for so many people and I'm only trying it now in this new packaging and I have to say I really love it. The brush is small enough that I have control over where I place it and how much product I use. I like that I can use it quite lightly for a quick groomed look and it can be built up for a more polished, full makeup look. It doesn't make my brow hairs feel heavy or sticky either making it a true gem and I can see why so many people swear by it.

I still think I do prefer Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows | post | £18.50 over Gimme Brow though. The brush is absolutely tiny with minuscule bristles that glide past and catch even the tiniest hairs, coating them in product and instantly creating perfect, natural looking full brows. The formula is incredibly light and my brow hairs still feel soft to the touch when I have this on. I use the product against the skin behind my brows to build up more colour and create a darker shadow when I want my brows looking even fuller. It just works so well and with such ease and all the while wrapped in the most exquisite rose gold packaging too. It's a win win if you ask me ;)

I feel that as my confidence with filling in my brows has increased, so has my willingness to try different types of products. And because of all these amazing new gems in my collection, I feel like I've neglected my beloved Crushed Walnut quite a bit of late. Though, let's be honest, it's done it's fair share in giving me good brows and deserves the rest.

What's your favourite brow product right now? Have you tried any of the new Natural Collection brow products? Are you a long time fan of Benefit Gimme Brow? Let me know...
