best of pixi skincare

Although I've been using the cult classic, needs-no-introduction, iconic even without a label, Pixi Glow Tonic for a year now, it was only in the latter part of last year that I ventured into some other skincare treats the brand has to offer. What was meant to be a dip of the toe ended up becoming an obsession and I haven't looked back since. A lot of these will continue to be repurchased for a long time to come.

Here are my Pixi Skintreats Picks:

review of pixi glow tonic vs bravura ginseng toner

Pixi Glow Tonic | £18 | featured here

This highly raved about orange liquid brightens the complexion, leaves skin feeling smoother and looking fresher.

Key ingredients:
  • Aloe Vera - heals and soothes
  • Witch Hazel - firms and tones
  • Horse Chestnut - boosts blood flow
  • 5% Glycolic Acid - stimulates cell turnover

I use this as part of my evening routine although this is gentle enough to use mornings and evenings. I reach for this after cleansing when my skin is looking a little dull or when I've worn a full face of makeup that day as I feel it helps to thoroughly cleanse the skin and reduce the likelihood of any congestion.

I find the bottle lasts a long while and the effects of this are more noticeable the more regularly you use it. I've recently started using Bravura Revitalising Ginseng Toner which contains the same ingredients and I can say I hardly notice any difference between them in formula, scent and effectiveness (except colour).

Repurchase?

I am on my second bottle of this so another repurchase of this depends on whether I feel like spending so much on it again or save my pennies and repurchase the Bravura, which is an exact dupe in effectiveness for much cheaper.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask | £18

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen me pestering everyone about how amazing this mask it. This mud mask is everything I want in a mask from it's texture and ease of application, to scent, to the time it takes to dry, it's perfomance and appearance, to how easy it is to remove. I love it.

Key ingredients:
  • Aloe Vera - heals and soothes
  • Rosemary - rejuvenates and stimulates
  • Ginseng - brightens and clarifies
  • Kaolin - purifies

This dark green mousse-like paste spreads evenly and smoothly over the whole face but I focus this mostly on my t-zone since the tube is disappointingly teeny tiny. As it dries it turns light grey and you can see impurities that are extracted from every pore highlighted by the mask, and any spot or blemish turns white. Even though I don't fully understand why, to me it's a sign that it's working away.

This comes off so easily with a damp flannel and reveals fresh, bright and thoroughly cleansed skin. I always reach for this when I want a quick treatment to draw out impurities and deal with any congestion immediately. The results of this mask are undeniable.

I don't like the fact that the tube is so small and priced so high for such a small amount of product and feel like this will deter a lot of people from giving this gem a go!

Repurchase?

Yes absolutely. I already have another tube at the ready!

best pixi skintreats poducts for normal oily dry dehydrated skin

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum | £26 | review here

This gel textured serum sinks into the skin quickly and gets to work immediately. Containing 10% glycolic acid and aloe vera, this serum is a lovely treat to ensure you wake up to bright, clearer skin that has regained some of its natural glow.

Key ingredients:
  • Glycolic Acid - stimulates cell turnover
  • Aloe Vera - heal and soothes
  • Cucumber Extract - calms and relieves puffy skin
  • Arginine - strengthens skin

I've reviewed this serum before which you can read here. In essence, if you're looking for a product that gives you amazing skin even after just one use, this is it. It's a hard-working exfoliating serum that feels gentle on the skin and has a soothing texture. Although the dropper is not able to properly dispense such a thick formula, the actual product is a delight to use and effective each time I do.

Repurchase?

I already have because I don't want to not have this in my life! It's that good!

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser | £18 | featured here

An active clay cleanser containing 5% glycolic acid is unlike any other cleanser that I own. This is the cleanser that made me fall in love with double cleansing because it leaves the skin so beautifully clean and smooth, and instantly refreshed.

Key Ingredients:
  • Aloe Vera - heals and soothes
  • 5% Glycolic Acid - stimulates cell turnover
  • Clay - draws out impurities
  • Chamomile - soothes

This has quite a thick texture and isn't unlike a face mask in appearance. It smells quite strongly of clay to me, but that's because I am not a fan of these scents usually, though with prolonged use I've begun to like it. It doesn't foam up but rather is massaged all over the face, avoiding the eye area, and then wiped off with a damp flannel. You will instantly see a difference which is what makes this cleanser such a delight to use. It also doubles up as a quick mask, revealing glowing skin.

I love using this in the evenings after cleansing with a balm or oil, and especially on days that I have worn a full face of makeup. It really gets everything off my skin and brightens my complexion. You can also use this in the morning to start your day with some natural glow. I love how you get such a huge bottle of the stuff too.

Repurchase?

YES! If there is one product from Pixi you try, please make it this cleanser.

pixi glow peel pads review 20% glycolic for dry oily normal skin

Pixi Glow Peel Pads | £24

These intense saturated pads are a great way to boost the skin's radiance by quickly and effectively sloughing away any dry flakes or dealing with textured patches.

Key ingredients:
  • 20% Glycolic Acid - stimulates cell turnover
  • Rose Water -
  • Witch Hazel - firms and tones
  • Vitamin E - nourishes and increases skin's elasticity

I don't use these very often as they are so strong. I reserve these for when I've tried everything else and my skin is still looking dire. I sweep one pad all over my face and hands, as instructed, and let it dry. I then splash cool water over my face  to neutralise and make sure to follow with a nourishing facial oil.

These sting quite a bit but that's reassuring since it contains a higher amount of acid and therefore should be doing more. They also have a strange scent that thankfully doesn't linger. From my collection this is definitely my strongest solider I reserve for the toughest battles and it has never let me down.

Repurchase?

It will take me a while to get through this pot as I use them so rarely, but once I'm done I want to try the Peter Thomas Roth ones.

pixi cleansing butter review dry normal oily skin

Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm | £18 | review here

This cleansing balm smells delicious and allows you the experience of having a facial massage whilst leaving your skin smoother and fresher. It is a highly nourishing concoction of oils and butters that work to remove all dirt and grime and although I don't find it as effective on makeup removal, I cannot deny how pleasant it is to use.

Key Ingredients:
  • Sweet Almond Oil - dissolves impurities
  • Cocoa Butter - antioxidant-rich and healing
  • Shea Butter - protects and maintains hydration
  • Vitamin E - nourishes and increases elasticity

I have grown to love this more and more every time I use it. As I previously mentioned in my Cleansing Balms Compared post, it doesn't emulsify upon contact with water and this still bugs me the most about it, because other than that it is a lovely product I actually reach for a lot. It isn't great for removing eye makeup or heavy makeup but it makes an excellent skin cleanser, especially after those long tiring days when you want to treat your skin.

Repurchase?

I want to say no because of the fact that it doesn't emulsify but considering I'm already half way through and loving it, I might end up picking it up again in the future.

pixi shea butter lip balm review

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm | £8

This tinted lip balm is the perfect product for no makeup days or when I'm in a rush. It is hydrating and keeps my lips feeling smooth while adding a hint of colour that is flattering.

Key Ingredients:
  • Shea Butter - nourishes
  • Vitamin E - protects
  • Castor Oil - conditioning
I love that the formula of this lip balm is so light-weight on the lips but so nourishing. It isn't sticky or too slippery or overly glossy. It's just a great balm for the daytime when I want my lips to look and feel good without having to apply any lipstick. The colour that I have too - Natural Rose - works perfectly on my pigmented lips to help them appear more even. It is a semi-sheer rose mauve shade.

Repurchase?

Yes, I know that when I don't have this in my life I will miss it.

best pixi products for oily skin dry skin and normal skin

[Just for reference I have combination skin that is also dehydrated and all the products reviewed work fine for my skin type and in most cases these products will work for all skin types. Please make sure you do your research around your skin type and what your skin is able to handle and use products accordingly]

If it wasn't obvious, I am a huge fan of the brand and thoroughly enjoying using these products not just because they contain amazing ingredients but also because they are very effective. The packaging is unique in colour and I think its fantastic that the brand has chosen a colour that is uncommon, making them instantly recognisable. And of course the rose gold trimmings and accents just make the packaging striking and pretty. I still haven't tried any of their moisturisers and I would also love to get my hands on their Facial Oil and Milky Serum at some point too.

It's great that these products are a lot easier to get our hands on now from PIXI, Cult Beauty, ASOS and with them available both online and in some Marks & Spencer stores, you can actually see the products and even try samples before purchasing. I highly recommend checking out the brand and trying something to see just how lovely these well-perfoming products are. It is a shame though that we have to pay significantly more for the same products than those in US.
