2015 Makeup Favourites

Thursday, December 31, 2015

I did a similar post last year titled A Few Of My Favourite 2014 Things and indeed a few things there were. Last year, we moved house a couple of times and a lot of my favourites were from just the little bundle of things that I always carried in my makeup bag, but this year, since unpacking properly and buying loads more things, it's only proper that I list my 2015 favourites in the appropriate extended categories.

For most categories, I've chosen a high-end favourite and a high-street favourite, where applicable because as you should all know, I like the best of both worlds. Hahaha! I'm a drugstore dreamer and luxury lover all rolled into one!

I hope you all enjoy, and if you do one yourself please let me know because I just love reading these types of digests at the end of the year :)

  • PRIMER | I managed to use up an entire bottle of Bourjois Happy Light Matte Primer Serum which is a lovely silky texture that leaves the face matte and holds the makeup into place. A newer discovery but already a firm favourite is of course Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Primer which not only mattifies the skin, it is hydrating and comfortable to apply and makes the makeup last all day.
  • FOUNDATION | I fell in love with it last year and I love it still. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H is still the foundation that blows me away. It leaves a finish like no other and I've yet to come across a foundation that is as stunning. My high-street favourite has got to be the ever popular L'Oreal True Match which, aside from the colour matching issue, is an incredible foundation that I find myself reaching for over all others.
  • BB CREAM | This hasn't changed for me for the last few years because Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream is always good to me. I've worn this on my down days and during family weddings and it always impresses me just how amazing this product is.
  • CONCEALER | The title has to go to MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and of course Maybelline The Eraser Eye Concealer, which both conceal and brighten my undereye area without drying it out.
  • POWDER | There is no question of a doubt that the honour of this title still remains with Bourjois Healthy Balance Pressed Powder which a beautifully fine powder that I've mentioned numerous times before.

  • CREAM EYE SHADOW | If there is one product that I have consistently reached for over the past year it is Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Effect - Creamy Beige which is a lovely taupe brown shade that works incredibly well on my skintone to even out and brighten my eyelids quickly and effectively.
  • SINGLE EYE SHADOW | If you want to see just how much I love Natural Collection Eyeshadow - Crushed Walnut you can trace back its entire journey with me by clicking on this hashtag here #UmmBabyMakeupMess Although I use this more for my brows than anything else it is still my most favourite eyeshadow of the year.
  • EYE SHADOW PALETTE | I'm not a huge eyeshadow palette hoarder because I really don't wear eyeshadows much but for me my favourite has to be my own custom palette I created using KIKO Clics System Infinity Eyeshadows.
  • LIQUID LINER | I love me a good bit of black liner and Lancome Artliner and Soap & Glory Supercat have been my weapons of choice this year.
  • GEL LINER | I think I do generally prefer gel liners to liquid liners and this year saw me use up an entire pot of Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner and more recently I've discovered a new favourite in Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel.
  • PENCIL LINER | I can't go without a little pencil liner on my waterline or upper lash line and I've been using Benefit BadGal Waterproof Liner for over 5 years now and I still love it. A daily staple for me is Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl which is a soft gel formula that glides on and stays put.
  • MASCARA | I've got 2 favourites this year and they're both high-street options for my lashes. Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless still gives me everything I want for my lashes, especially length and definition. And Maybelline Lash Sensational curls, volumises and separates my lashes for a dramatic result.

  • BROW POWDER | Since discovering that Natural Collection Eyeshadow - Crushed Walnut  is actually the perfect shade for my brows to appear more shaped and fuller, very few brow prodcuts have got a look-in.
  • BROW PENCIL | I am still astonished that Soap & Glory Archery Pencil - Hot Chocolate not only works to give me bold and beautiful brows, but also that the colour is perfect. A beautifully cool grey brown that is perfect for travel as it is the dinkiest of things all with a spoolie on the other end too.
  • BROW GEL | If I go to all the effort of filling in my brows that last thing I want is for that hard work to move about and I've really enjoyed using Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara to make sure its all set in place.

  • CONTOUR KIT | I was a contouring newbie at the beginning of the year but I have to say, most of my contouring successes are down to my 2 faves of the year - Barry M Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit and Sleek Face Contour Kit which both make the fad so easy to master.
  • BRONZER | Although I am a medium skin-toned kinda gal, I am quite pasty most of the time so a little warmth is required. I love NARS Laguna Bronzer and Soap & Glory Solar Powder because they both give my face a beautifully bronzed glow from within look.
  • HIGHLIGHTER | Like it can be a surprise to anyone that I would say theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer which not only lifts my mood and spirits, it lifts my makeup game like no other product.
  • BLUSHER | My favourite makeup product of all is always a hard one to choose favourites for but this year NARS VIRTUAL DOMINATION CHEEK PALETTE stole the show for me. I also fell in love with Max Factor Creme Puff Blushes and used MUA Blusher - Cupcake to my heart's content.
  • CREAM BLUSH | Another tough one to choose but it has got to be my first ever Chanel product Chanel Le Blush Creme De Chanel - 69 Intonation which looks alarming in the pan but actually mimics my natural flush of the cheeks really well.

  • LIP LINER | This year was all about lip liners for me because I had previously grown to hate them and regard them only as drying. That was until I discovered KIKO Automatic Precision Lip Liners which have the creamist smoothest texture and the shade 502 Deep Pink to be specific is my lip liner of dreams.
  • MATTE LIPSTICK | I can't see myself falling out of love with MAC Mehr any time soon. The matte but not drying formula and the gorgeous blue-toned pink will be my favourite for a long time to come. I also adore KIKO Unlimited Stylo - 13 Cocoa which got endless attention and love from me for the beginning part of the year.
  • SATIN LIPSTICK | As though this lipstick could be a mystery - Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick, nee Super Colour FabuLipstick - Naked Beige - I got through an entire tube of it and I've already got me a back-up of the back-up.
  • LIQUID LIPSTICK | Still new to the liquid lipstick game but I think I'm yet to find one that tops Sephora Cream Lip Stain - 13 Marvelous Mauve which is both an incredible formula and a stunning shade.
  • NUDE LIPSTICK | I am still getting myself on board with nudes, preferring pink lip colours over all else, but this year I have loved the look of Lipstick Queen - Nude Sinner on my lips which is completely different to my other favourites. A newer favourite that I initially disliked is NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Abu Dhabi which really offers me a skintone appropriate true nude option.

  • SHOPPING TRIP | Going with my sister Mack to MAC to purchase our first MAC Lipsticks.
  • MAKEUP MOMENT | I've had plenty lol. I finished my first ever tube of lipstick, an entire pot of gel liner which was just so satisfactory. Also when I finally unpacked all of my makeup and organised it. And finally letting go of all my old makeup, some of which is older than my marriage!!!
  • MAKEUP GIFT | I was over the moon and still head over heels in love with my gift from Mack at Eid which was the stunning NARS Dual Intensity Blush - Panic. I love that Hubby gifted me Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette which I still can't believe I actually own.
  • GAME CHANGER | For me, joining and posting makeup pictures and reviews on Instagram changed everything. I had a place to go to where there would be so many like-minded individuals always willing to talk about and share the things that I love that nobody else in my life really was interested in.
