Un-Retouched Makeup

makeup flatlay of high end luxury makeup that is untouched

And by un-retouched I mean untouched!!!

You know the scenario I'm highlighting here:
You've finally got your hands on that beautiful palette you've lusted after for weeks or you've been gifted some beautiful makeup item, and you open it up, sniff it (I can't not do this even when there is no scent!), you take a billion pictures of it in order to post one, and then you wrap it all back up and put it away in your drawer, away from sources of heat and direct sunlight, untouched.

As a Psychology graduate, I wish I had more of an insightful explanation in regards to this behaviour, but I really don't. So instead I'm going to discuss some of the makeup I find myself unable to touch or swatch, let alone use, in the hopes that this post will give me some closure from its perfect, pristineness and allow me to move forward and enjoy it all. By finally using it...?!?

First up is NARS Velvet Shadow Stick - Goddess £20 which the lovely NARS social team was kind enough to send me. I love the colour so much and I know I will get a lot of use out of it, but because of the sentiment I'm finding myself preserving it. Perhaps to show my daughters when they're older? Or to recall the fun times I'm having on Instagram one day?!? I don't even know...

To be honest I don't think I will ever use Burberry Lips Burberry Kisses - Military Red £25, which was sent out free to beauty obsessed Twitter users earlier this year. It's a miniature and it's beautiful. The packaging and the detail on the bullet are so pretty. Personally, because it's red I've never used it, but then part of me also just wants to keep it as a bit of a collector's item.

Next up is the stunning Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi Effects Quadra Eyeshadow - Tisse Rivoli £40. When I bought this I thought I'd be using this for every special occasion because the colours are so gorgeous and perfect for me. But I found myself unable to dispose of the CHANEL bag and tissue paper it came wrapped in, so touching the shadows became even more of a big deal. I think its time I finally crack open this little quad and use it. Give me the strenght!

And finally, it can come as no surprise that I'm still struggling to touch the breathtaking Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette £65. This is a mixture of sentiment, gratitude, awe and being completely head over heels in love with it. I keep opening it up from its box and looking at each unique marbled square, polish the easily grubbied-up packaging, give it a good sniff and then put it away. But now that this is out of my system and I've owned up to this madness I am hoping I will be able to let it go and start using it.

So there concludes my list of unretouched untouched makeup. I'm hoping to get over it all and just slap it all over my face soon. Please let me know if you've got any beautiful products that you've left untouched for ages without any real, sensible reason. It will help me feel better ;)

  1. Oh Sal! This post made me smile :) I am the exact opposite, I NEED to swatch, touch everything new ASAP and it pains me if I have to wait a day or two for better lighting to take photos for my blog first before using the product :) You MUST start using these gorgeous products and enjoy them while you can :) x

  2. "Give it a good sniff and put it away" rotfl !!!!!! Yes. Same here. This palette is back in its Christmas edition gift wrap. And it's been like that since I instagrammed it. I give it a polish, admire it, give it another polish then carefully replace back into the packaging being wary of adding any additional fingerprints. I feel you sis I feel you! :D :D :D

  4. The Chanel quad looks absolutely stunning, I've actually never tried their makeup! I couldn't justify the Hourglass palette as I already own half of it but it looks gorgeous xx
