skincare tea and perfume to help when you have a cold

Since Autumn rolled around, my house has been hosting a virus that seems to have made quite a comfy home for itself between the three little ducklings and hubby and I. Every time we think it has passed, it surfaces again and then its another few days of playing dominoes with us all. Fortunately, this has given me the chance, time and time again, to find the products that really work together to help me during a cold and also help me beat it.

SKIN TREATS (FOR YOURSELF)

The biggest problem I have when I am feeling under the weather is that my skin suffers with me. I find it difficult to keep up with a good skincare regime and also continuously using central heating, wiping my nose with tissues, and lying in bed all day really takes its toll on my skin. I basically now just go for moisture and hydration and ignore everything else.

Antipodes Divine Face Oil | only £15.87 here
This oil is beautiful. It is very hydrating and nourishing and so when I pat this over my face in the morning, I know my skin will start the day happy and remain so. It sinks into the skin really well, gives a lovely smoothness to the surface and lasts even after a nap. When I use this, I don't feel like my skin is missing out on anything.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Skin Protectant | £26
This cult classic is my go-to product for when I'm ill because it can be used for so much. My lips are usually even dryer and more irritated than usual so this thick balm really helps and keeps me from licking them into destruction. And there is nothing better to help me protect the skin around my nose, which gets sore and starts flaking when I have a cold. A few applications of this during the day and the problem is sorted.

Superdrug Vitamin E Refreshing Toning Mist | £2.99
I am generally obsessed with this spritz which sprays lightly and evenly, with a delicate, pleasing sweet scent. But on my down days, this really helps me feel a little better and brighter. Not only does it inject some much needed moisture into my skin, it really lifts my mood and makes me feel like I am on the mend. Its a lovely affordable skin treat that I recommend to everyone.

SMELLY TREAT (FOR EVERYONE ELSE)

I am fully aware that I don't exactly smell my best when I am sick, even though my nose is usually blocked up and smelling things is a distant memory that I didn't appreciate when I had the ability. I mean, I barely look after my face, so tending to body odour is hardly on my list of priorities. So I definitely feel like perfume is a must to help when you have a cold, more so for the people around you.

Roger & Gallet Fleur De Figuier Eau De Toilette | £17
While I was last ill this beautifully light but fruity (not sickly sweet) scent was what I reached for most. The packaging is slim making it easy to keep under my pillow or beside my bed without getting in my way when I am trying to entertain my sickness as easily as I can. When I hear my husband coming up the stairs, I quickly spritz this all over and he doesn't need to smell that I haven't showered. Hah! I'm so devious!

YUMMY TREAT

When I get ill, I lose my appetite for the beginning half of the day. I despise the burden of breakfast and the thought of lunch gives me a headache. So I take to filling up on delicious hot drinks, especially tea until dinner time.

Pukka Herbs Three Mint | £2.39
This tea is very fragrant but doesn't taste pungent or overpowering. I love that it has a blend of three different mints and tastes cool but helps me to stay warm from the inside. I am not a huge fan of herbal teas and fruit teas and such but this is a delicious, clean tasting tea that leaves me feeling more upbeat.

  1. It seems like we have a cousin of your stubborn virus in our house :) I usually drink lots of lemon tea with honey when I'm not feeling well and I agree that extra moisturising my skin is essential! x
